HOW TO DRESS FOR THE AIRPORT

The global pandemic put a holt on travel in 2020 but now that we are in 2021, a lot more things are opening back up, including the airport. Whether I am flying for 1 hour or 10 hours, being comfortable on a plane is super important for me. Below is my style guide (I have no claim to be a fashion guru) to helping you dress for your next travel journey by air.

#1 wear a comfortable and warm shirt

Truthfully, I prefer a sweatshirt over a sweater any day because I can make them look super cute but this part is up to you. Since airports and flights tend to be freezing, it’s really key here to prepare yourself for the weather and dress warmly. But not too warm, too many layers can cause you to burn up. For me, oversized sweaters are my jam because I can literally wear them ANYWHERE including laying around in the house. I also don’t have to worry about having too many layers and making myself or the person next to me uncomfortable while I struggle to take off my sweater. Airline chairs are so tiny.  I got this sweatshirt in particular from shopsitesee.com. Site See makes clothing for digital nomads and female travelers.

#2 Wear comfortable pants

Alright, you need to be comfortable. Jeans are a no go for me. I usually only wear skinny jeans and truthfully, you can’t move around in those if you need to. Let’s be real, flights are not comfortable. Unless you’re buying a first-class plane ticket, there is no way jeans work. I don’t know about you but I have to sit criss-cross apple sauce and then move to a position where I am stretched out stay comfortable on long flights. The amount of movement that takes place in my legs means that yoga pants and leggings is a go-to.

P.S. I think leggings + oversized sweatshirts, like mine from ‘Site See’ that says, “Going Places” = 😍😍😍.

#3 Wear a comfortable bra

Stay away from bras with wires or any kind of metal. I still have a scar to this day because I wore a metal wired bra to the airport for a 5-hour flight. The wire popped out and was stabbing my skin. It’s uncomfortable. Instead, wear a sports bra that is more suited for you. I know not everyone can wear a sports bra so instead, wear a bra that works! Lace bras are also charming and comfortable and don’t usually include wires.

#4 Wear comfortable shoes

I can’t stress this enough. Especially, if you will be landing in a bigger airport or coming from a big airport. Shoes matter. If you have heels that are super comfortable then wear them. If you have flats that are comfortable, wear them. Keep in mind that you may need to run/sprint to your gate or walk miles from one gate to another. With all the walking you may end up doing, it is important to wear shoes that can endure the activities you will be participating in.

P.s. remember that to get through security you will need to take your shoes off. Be sure to wear socks for this reason. Also, it’s important to remember that planes can have problems. You need to wear shoes that will make it easy for you to escape or swim in. Tennis shoes or completely closed-toe shoes would be key here.
